KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

For many patients, treatments under the CDCP will not be entirely free. Some patients may need to cover a portion of the costs, depending on their household income. The federal government will subsidize part of the CDCP fees, but additional charges, known as co-payments, will be the patient's responsibility. You will need to pay these directly to your dentist if: Your adjusted family net income is between $70,000 and $89,999, andYou opt for dental services not covered by the CDCP. Here is the co-payment breakdown based on adjusted family income:
Adjusted family net income
How much will the CDCP cover
How much you will cover

Lower than $70,000

100% of eligible oral health care service costs will be covered at the CDCP established fees.

0% of the CDCP established fees.

Between $70,000 and $79,999

60% of eligible oral health care service costs will be covered at the CDCP established fees.

40% of the CDCP established fees.

Between $80,000 and $89,999

60% of the CDCP established fees.

In addition to the co-payments mentioned earlier, many of the government-covered fees still do not fully cover the cost of treatments at dental offices. Patients will need to pay the difference out of pocket.

Expanded Care in 2025As of early 2025, more dental services are available under the CDCP compared to 2024. However, certain treatments still require preauthorization—government approval based on a dentist’s recommendation—before they can proceed.

This process helps determine whether the proposed care is medically necessary and covered. Patients can now access a broader range of care, though frequency limits and coverage caps still apply. It remains important to consult your dentist in advance to confirm what is covered and what may result in out-of-pocket costs.Ongoing Staggered EligibilityThe CDCP continues to roll out in stages throughout 2025.

Health Canada is expanding eligibility based on age groups and registration timelines. While applications may open earlier, coverage does not necessarily start immediately.Patients should carefully review their eligibility letters or cards to confirm the exact date their coverage begins and which services are included.
